I still love a good backpack…

12 Oct

I love my handbags.. And I’m very fussy with which ones I like .. But while abroad on recent adventures, I tried for the first time a backpack!! Now we’ve all seen backpacks around and some aren’t our favourite .. But I had a snoop around recent collections at my favourite stores and I found some that I really like. I also tried to keep the price down .. We all love a good bargain!

So here is my variety of styles.. I hope you find something you like!

I’m a big fan of lots of pockets.. And I love things white and cream.. Unfortunately I’m a bit messy and would probs let this get dirty toooooo quick.. But I’m getting better!!! £27 is a BARG! Although I haven’t tried Yonis before! So let me know how it goes ?!

I LOVE this.. Beautiful and simple. And this colour is perfect for every season! Quite simply..I LOVE IT.

Also .. If you’re a staple black handbag fan.. Then this is simple with a cheeky bit of edge. Love the chain!

This cute backpack from accessorize covers a lot of styles .. And I know a lot of you will love it!

Tassels are my FAVOURITE!!! I love this.. And it’s down to £31?! Yes pleaseeeeee!!!

I think this is a cute alternative colour.. And I love the pattern on the pockets!

Another simple elegant bag.. This could be office fashion but also great for casual days too.. It’s also staple black. A winner really..

This one is cheap and edgy.. For those of you who like something that stands out more..
So have any of you got backpacks? Have you found some shopping that you love?! Send us your pictures by using the hashtag #dailyrubies

We love you all!

SPACEOVER .. Give your space a makeover..

5 Oct

A thought came to me the other day as I am looking for a new job at the mo. Grey plastic trays, dusty, broken keyboards and and stacks of paper threatening to topple over and drown you in a river of boring paperwork isn’t exactly a haven for inspiration or ingredients for a productive workflow is it ladies, can I get an amen! For me, organising and being happy with what the space around you looks like is almost, or just as important as working on what you look like. Whats around you gives you ideas, inspires and excites you and gives you the drive to work harder.

With winter looming around the corner I love finding little things to do to keep you happy about having to be inside more! Whether it’s your office, homework/study desk, cubicle or inspiration station, it deserves a makeover too! And after much experience, being happy with where you work or go to come up with your next genius plan, makes all the difference. If a little something can make you smile while writing that 3000 word essay, whether it’s your new sparkly pen or spanking fresh note pad, its worth it am I right!? I know some of us might be restricted with what we’re allowed to do at work but even a revamp of your pen, mug, paperclip and coaster collection can work wonders!

I am an absolute sucker for browsing the stationary/home decor isles of every shop going, and of course, my frenimy, pinterest! (frenemy because I love it but it makes me want to climb into one of my boards and live in my perfect pinterest world, it’s a love hate relationship!) Anyway I was browsing one of my absolute new fave shops, The Range, the other day and saw some gorgeous and reasonably priced little things that could transform a dull workplace into your personalised sanctuary of colour and happiness 😉

I hope you give this a try and get those creative juices flowing! let us know how you go! for these bad boys but I would try eBay and amazon too!

I challenge anyone not to smile when they see glittery anything! These cute cup coasters are from ShopBop but looks like a fun DIY project too 🙂

Loads of mega cute ideas on here, the garland is from easy but again, get your DIY on! Having cute family pics up is a must for me, always a guaranteed smile 🙂

Have pictures of things that inspire you! If you want to travel the world or work internationally, have a picture of the world up to remind and inspire you to push harder, cute canvases of your fave quotes and fun cushions always brighten ones day too!

Just remember.. Style extends to more than just fashion. When we make changes to our environment we can change our motivation, attitude and relationships.

Have an amazeballs week. Love B xoxo

Out with the NEW and in with the OLD?

28 Sep

Out with the [NEW] and in with

the [OLD]?

Last night I found the perfect quote to sum up what I’ve learnt over the past few weeks;

You see, fashion is what is offered to you throughout the four seasons of the year. Style is what you do with what you buy – or even, what you already own. Anyone can buy fashion, in fact every one can buy the same fashion. But only you can create your own style and pull it off the way you do.

Let me give you a few personal examples;

“My New Coat.”

Remember when I told you all about the Debenhams offer and how a new coat was at the top of my ‘to buy’ list? Well, the truth is, it only made its way there when I saw a variety of gorgeous coats coming into all the shops. I didn’t need a new coat – heck, I don’t even have space in my wardrobe for another one! Of course I still went and tried a load on and made a purchase, it was maroon and had a detachable fur collar… #winning! The problem is that when I put it on to wear to work the next morning, it just didn’t look good. Like, at all. I ended up pulling my old, black, fur collared coat out and wearing that instead. It looked and felt a lot better. I’ll return that new coat tomorrow (of course I took a photo in it for you first.)

“My new dress”

Another one to be returned. When trying this dress on in store, I thought ‘this is cool, this is fashionable, this will be great to use on the blog!’ WRONG. Once I put it on again at home, I saw that really it was much too long and didn’t fit my body right – and let’s face it, no item of clothing is cool, fashionable or blog worthy when it does nothing for your figure. From the side it looked okay (hense the picture being a side view – with the slit too!) but I can’t side step all day! Somehow I still fell into the trap of thinking ‘well, maybe I just need new shoes to make it work. Perhaps, a new chunky necklace or better yet, a scarf?’ If only I had the money for all of that! Luckily I was saved yesterday when I wore a 3 year old dress (an old favourite of mine) to church that made me realise that sometimes you just can’t beat a classic!

Lastly, “ My new sleeveless jacket”

I basically got carried away in the excitement of having money left over at the end of last month and bought everything that caught my eye. I still love this brown fur/black knitted back gilet (especially the price!) but with a trip to Barcelona, Christmas and my Au/NZ/Tahiti Adventure coming up, I figured it didn’t look good enough to justify the expenditure. I wanted to wear it with my new camel polo neck top but instead, I wore that with an old sheep skin effect jacket that’s so old, I couldn’t actually tell you how long I’ve had it!

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE fashion and it continues to inspire me. The variety, constant change and evolution of it will always excite me. But what also excites me is being able to resurrect old clothes so I can be fashionable, work my own style and still have a bit of money left in the bank.

And as Marc Jacob says anyway;

BALL(in) .. Not once.. Not twice ..

21 Sep

But 3 times!!  Cinderella would be so jealous. Just 2 weekends .. And 3 balls. That’s a lot of dresses!! It was fun to dress up.. Some more formal than others.

We thought we’d upload some of our dresses!

Hannah on the very left is wearing a dress from Mint Velvet, a shop with some stunning dresses! You can search their dresses if you.. Click here!

Becky wearing the white dress got her dress made on an eBay shop.. If you’re intrestred check her out on eBay. It’s seller ‘nini.lady’ .. She adjusts dresses she has .. With sleeves or whatever you like!

Me on the right, I got my hands on an old prom dress at a charity shop and took some black net material and just went crazy on the sewing machine! My college textiles days paid off! My main idea of the night was the the slickback ‘Kim Kardashian’ style hair.. You can find a ton of tutorials for this and it’s so easy, I found an easy quick video to follow.. Click here to watch it!

Soph twisted her idea of ‘masquarade ball’ by buying a simple black catsuit, and adding a sheer black skirt. She made her own leather bow and looks INCREDIBLE! See below for more pictures…

For our ball in Oxford we both picked up nice dresses.. Mine was a bargain at £16.99 at TK MAXX .. It had the most incredible knee high slit on the side.. And soph got hers from Debenhams!

While we were in Oxford, you might have seen we did some street spotting.. If you didn’t go to @dailyrubies on Instagram to see some of their dresses!

Hello Autumn…

Hey Macklemore, can we do some shopping?

3 Sep
THRIFTYYYYY!! I am the queen of wearing my Grandmas clothes, and other peoples Grandmas clothes.. and taking charity shop clothes (Proabably from a Grandma).
My nan has always bought good clothes and beautiful designer pieces, and over the years she has allowed me to borrow some clothes and sometimes given me a few of her pieces, and I loveeee working them! My friends have also enjoyed wearing pieces and showing me how to work pieces that I felt were unworkable!! We bounce of each other its so great.
So here are my tips and tricks to finding the diamonds in a Charity Shop..
  1. Look for old designers, the items last longer and have a good wear and tear with a vintage feel.
  2. Don’t just look for your size, some things can look cool baggier, and the sizes can be all over the place, you may surprise yourself and fit in a smaller size!
  3. If you have time, look for things that need a slight edit. You could get some vintage jeans that are too short, and cut them into shorts. You could also do a dress in slightly or change the buttons on a shirt.
  4. Look through the handbags, I have managed to find some great overnight bags (normally they are really expensive in high street shops), I have got some great quality ones of nice patterns and vintage ones for as cheap as a pound!
  5. Always look through the jewellery – accessories are everything.
I love my local charity shop its soo cheep and amongst me and my friends and mum have spent hundreds there over the past couple years. Even getting suitcases, furniture and books too!
Get thrift peeps. xxxx

Olay, Olay . It’s a happy holiday GOOD MORNING AMERICA!

22 Jul

Ollay Ollay It’s a happy holiday!

So I’m out in Florida, and wanted to back track a little and share my holiday essentials! I don’t know about you but a few days before holiday (Friday at work for me) I start to panic and right a whole list out of things I need to remember for my holiday. I write everything from Hair clips to Bras to what shoes I wanna take. Then as I am packing I try on all my outfits to minimalist my suitcase ( I always plan to leave enough room for some buys while out wherever I am) !
SO this holiday is a hot one.. my list included all the sunglasses and what not.. the usual but I wanted to share with you extras!! !
First.. I bought Dove Gradual Tan Moisturiser! I’ll let you know how that goes.. I normally use Johnsons.

I bought a new serum called ‘Inhibitif’ which is meant to make your hair growth less and less until one day you could permanently not have any hair on whatever part you choose to apply the cream (I thought going on a mission this would be fab as I need to have my legs out every day in a skirt! ) , It’s the new alternative to all these expensive IPL sessions and what not.
 (I’ve started a blog on this so watch out ! 🙂 )

I also went to TK Maxx (WHICH I HATE – SUCH A JUMBLE SALE) , and bought a cute one piece swimsuit for the water parks we might go to when we are out there. – Don’t wanna flash my bits. So happy that  managed to find something!

Check these one pieces on ASOS.. in love.. if I had more time def would have ordered some of these!!

I haven’t got much spare dollar at the moment but I also bought some make up and bits and bobs of shoes. (Will do separate blog for make up).

My new FAV pair of heels are these red ones from New Look, I love this stroppy style and I totes want them in every single colour!!! I love them.

They are 17.99 in store atm!

You can also get them from ebay, and loads of high street shops sell them atm. (New Look is just what was in town).

Holiday essentials that I hadn’t invested in but were a MUST take are my Fringe top – perfect summery feel.

I also love my print dresses and skirts for evening meals and drinks.. love it!!!
(See my midi dress blog for some print dress ideas. )

‘Mishrobe’ by Libby Mace

9 Jul

soooooooooooooo. I am so excited for this blog post because me and Libby Mace have been chatting about the fact we both have recently decided to serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!! (If you don’t know about this..please search here ( ..

but anyway.. she has written a blog post for me.. wahhoooo here we go…

this is me.

1063217_10201073177207699_1528155236_n - Copy

i’ve never been one to blog. i’m one of those who will buy a journal, try my very hardest to write my very neatest for the first, maybe second entry, vow to write in it everyday, and then without fail, completely forget the thing even existed. in fact, if i’d have put every penny i spent on various journals together, i would probably have a good chunk of my mission fund saved. but here goes!

1057510_10201073177367703_1853916321_n - Copy

I may be anxiously preparing for a mission, but i’m not about to hand in some of my all time faves for 18 months of dressing like the Amish.

if i’m going to go out, i’m going to do it in style. quite literally.

I absolutely LOVE these classy & cute, yet incredibly comfortable outfit combos! (perfect for a busy day of rounding up the troops of the kingdom!)

you’d think making the decision to serve a full time mission (with the possibility of being called to where like russia..) would be one of life’s trickiest. and it is. but, throw in the decision of choosing a new foundation once your trusty and seemingly irreplaceable one has not only ran out, but has been discontinued; i’d face the mission decision any day. so here’s to help a sista out.

i swear by this foundation, or ‘face’ as i call it. you have the choice of it being suitable for dry or oily skin, with the added bonus of body shop keeping the classics going forever, you’ll rarely have to spend hours trying

972213_10201073230289026_716834493_non shade & texture and you can skip the attractive blotchy hand too. top it off with this priceless (although slightly overpriced) powder by Bare Minerals and you’ll be on your way, keeping it quick & classy.

i’m slowly accepting that sticking to the comfortable footwear is going to make my mission 12 times more enjoyable/bearable. when it comes to tracting at all hours of the day, the popular saying ‘no pain, no gain’ can definitely take a hike. but, if you ever find me in anything resembling these bad boys.. you know, the type that should be sold with an age requirement..

please, feel free to tackle me to the floor and tear them off. pronto.

however.. i love these cute, classy & massively comfortable options!

i guess that’s what my ‘mishdrobe’ look is. classy,

cute & comfortable.

Stay classy San Diego. 😉
